A New Era for Cinematography
The BURANO is a new concept in cinema cameras. It takes the superior image quality and ease of use of the VENICE and reimagines them for solo or small-crew productions. 33 % is lighter than the VENICE 2, more power-efficient, and supports CFexpress media: it's not just our smallest full-frame CineAlta camera, it's also our most technically advanced. Expect uncompromising image quality wherever you are and whatever the size of your crew.
Film smarter
The BURANO makes shooting in the highest quality 8K even easier than you could imagine. It’s the world’s first compatible PL-mount camera with in-body image stabilization*. A revolutionary combination of our unique electronic variable ND filter system with in-body image stabilization (IBIS) technology, all in a full-frame PL- and E-mount cinema camera. For the first time on a full-frame CineAlta camera, Fast Hybrid AF and AI Subject Recognition AF features will help you more easily get the images you want, even in the most demanding conditions. With the BURANO, you don’t need a studio or a large crew to excel.
It's up to you to decide how to film
The BURANO adapts to become your camera of choice for any shoot. With its versatile touchscreen LCD monitor, flexible mounting system, and versatile, sturdy handle, you can easily configure the BURANO for different shooting styles. Its ultra-lightweight, compact chassis and ergonomic balance make it easy to switch between shoulder-mounted, handheld, gimbal, or drone use. The BURANO can be configured for projects large and small, solo or with a full crew. The choice is yours.
8.6K full-frame sensor
The BURANO features a large 36 x 24 mm full-frame sensor that delivers high-quality images and superb rendering with wide latitude and a rich color gamut. It allows for the beautiful bokeh and dynamic wide-angle shots that only a full-frame sensor can provide. 8K image quality with a maximum resolution of 8632 x 4856 and, thanks to oversampling, produce phenomenal 4K content.
Multiple image scanning modes
The BURANO supports 16:9 and 17:9 playback in full frame (8.6K) and Super 35mm (5.8K). Image scanning modes include full frame and Super 35, as well as finely tuned downsampled and high-speed modes like 6K 60p (FF Crop), 5.8K 60p (S35), and 4K 120p (S35 Crop*), to meet a wide range of production requirements.
Dual ISO base
On the VENICE 2, cinematographers around the world appreciate the ability to change the sensor sensitivity to shoot sharp images, even in low-light conditions. The BURANO supports the same dual ISO of 800 and 3200 as on the VENICE 2. This means you can enjoy sharp images with low noise, whether you're shooting in brightly lit environments (ISO 800) or challenging low-light environments (ISO 3200). With the BURANO, you can shoot exceptional images with only candlelight.
16-bit X-OCN LT and XAVC H internal recording
Despite its compact dimensions, the BURANO offers internal recording in X-OCN LT*, in addition to our new XAVC H format and the proven industry standard XAVC-I. X-OCN is Sony's compressed RAW format that records everything the 8.6K sensor can capture in a wide-latitude, 16-bit scene linear file filled with rich tonal gradations. The high efficiency of X-OCN LT reduces storage requirements and speeds transfer times for 8K content files, and offers a post-production workflow comparable to a 4K project.
The BURANO also offers 10-bit S-Log3 with XAVC HI HQ recording at 1200 Mbps and XAVC HI SQ recording at 800 Mbps for 8K30p image quality. This allows for significant data savings while speeding up the post-production workflow.
